Assistant Quantity Surveyor (M&E)Department: CommercialReports To: Senior Quantity SurveyorLocation: Office-Based (with site visits)Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pmAbout the RoleWe are seeking a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor (M&E) to join our Commercial team and support the successful delivery of multiple Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) projects.This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in quantity surveying within an M&E contracting environment. You will gain hands-on experience across procurement, cost control, valuations, and commercial administration, working closely with an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor.Job PurposeTo support the Senior Quantity Surveyor in the effective commercial and cost management of multiple MEP subcontract projects, while developing core quantity surveying and commercial management skills.Key ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety & ComplianceComply with and actively promote company Health & Safety policies at all timesEnsure compliance with all company procedures, systems, and protocolsProcurement & TenderingAssist in the procurement and commercial evaluation of subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants (labour-only and supply-only packages)Support preparation of subcontract documentation and attend Part 2 meetings where requiredAssist in preparing Bills of Quantities, schedules, and tender comparison documentsMeasurement & Cost ControlAssist with measurement and take-off of M&E services from drawings and specificationsSupport measurement for interim valuations, variations, and final accountsAssist in preparing and maintaining Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)Support identification, recording, and assessment of commercial changes for subcontractors and clientsPayments & Commercial AdministrationAssist in assessing payments to subcontractors, consultants, and suppliersSupport preparation of labour-only paymentsAssist (subject to approval) with interim payment authorisations in line with company proceduresDraft commercial correspondence for review by the Senior Quantity SurveyorMaintain accurate and up-to-date commercial recordsProject & Team SupportLiaise with site teams to support project deliveryAttend design, procurement, commercial, and site meetingsTake accurate meeting minutes when requiredProvide general commercial administrative support across multiple projectsSkills & CompetenciesStrong numerical and analytical skillsGood understanding of Microsoft ExcelClear written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively within a teamStrong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasksBasic understanding of M&E installations (mechanical/electrical)Willingness to learn and develop within an M&E commercial environmentExperience & QualificationsMinimum 1 year experience in construction or M&E contracting (desirable)Package & BenefitsSalary: £50,000 - £55,000Pension: 8% employer contributionAnnual Leave: 28 days (including bank holidays)Travel AllowancePerformance Bonus SchemeEmployee Assistance Programme (EAP)Bright Exchange Discount SchemeWorking ConditionsOffice-based role with regular site visitsFull-time position, Monday to FridayMay require flexibility during tender periods and project deadlines, including occasional overtimeRole and responsibilities may be subject to change in line with business needsWR HVAC | M&E are #1 recruitment partner for HVAC jobs.
