A leading residential groundworks, civil engineering, and housebuilding contractor is looking to recruit an ambitious
Assistant Quantity Surveyor
to join their growing commercial team based in Cannock.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career with a well-established contractor delivering multiple residential infrastructure, groundwork, and housing developments across the region.
The Role
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of residential groundworks and civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to final account. You will work closely with senior surveyors, site teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered profitably and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting with the commercial management of residential groundwork and civil engineering projects
Preparing valuations, applications for payment, and variations
Supporting subcontractor procurement, payments, and account management
Assisting with cost reporting, forecasting, and budget control
Reviewing tender documentation and supporting contract administration
Liaising with site teams and project managers to monitor project progress
Supporting final accounts and commercial reporting
Identifying commercial risks and opportunities across live projects
Requirements
Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee QS role within construction, groundworks, or housebuilding
Strong interest in residential groundworks and civil engineering projects
Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to work well within a team and manage multiple tasks
Relevant construction or commercial qualification (or working towards one) preferred
Full UK driving licence preferred
