The Opportunity We are seeking a
Category Manager
Equipment & Consumables
to join our Procurement function on a
12-month fixed term contract . This is an opportunity to take ownership of a £30m spend portfolio covering mechanical and electrical equipment, including motors, gearboxes, lubricants and associated consumables. With a broad and fragmented supplier base, this role offers the scope to bring structure, strengthen governance, and deliver measurable commercial value while ensuring technical and operational requirements are fully met. What You'll Be Doing Execute the established category strategy for mechanical and electrical equipment and consumables, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
Lead end-to-end tender processes, from developing specifications and tender documentation through to negotiation, contract award and implementation.
Partner with engineering, operations and finance stakeholders to align technical specifications with commercial objectives and budget expectations.
Monitor supplier performance against contractual KPIs, conducting regular risk assessments and implementing mitigation actions where required.
Support supplier consolidation and compliance with group contracts to enhance value, transparency and control.
Who you are You have experience managing procurement categories within engineering-led environments, particularly mechanical and electrical components such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors or screening equipment.
You are confident running tenders independently and can interpret technical specifications with credibility and precision.
You understand how to balance cost optimisation with quality, risk management and operational continuity.
You approach complex supplier landscapes methodically, using data and insight to prioritise actions and deliver measurable results.
