Chef Manager Location: Alexandra Palace Garden Centre and Cafe, Alexandra Palace Way, London N22 7BB Salary: £32-£36,000 DOE Hours: Open until 4.30pm. No late nights or super early mornings. Our goal is to make them as alive as our garden centres, each unique in its location, serving delicious morning bakes, breakfast, coffee, tea, cakes, fresh, seasonal lunch dishes and afternoon teas. The Role Responsible for delivering excellent customer service while managing the day-today operations of the café across both front and back of house. Preparing and cooking dishes from the café menu to a high standard, ensuring quality and consistency at all times. Leading, monitoring and motivating the team to ensure smooth and efficient service. Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and compliance with all Food Safety regulations. Working closely with the FOB Manager and Centre Manager to maximise sales, drive revenue and support the overall success of the café. Responsibilities Kitchen and food preparation: Prepare and cook dishes from the caf é menu to a high standard, ensuring consistency, quality and presentation Oversee food preparation and service during busy periods, supporting the kitchen team when required Maintain portion control and minimise food waste Manage stock levels, place orders with suppliers and ensure efficient stock rotation Monitor Deliveries and maintain quality control of ingredients and supplies Team Leadership Lead, support and motivate back of house teams to deliver excellent customer service. Organise staff rotas and ensure appropriate staffing levels during peak trading times. Train and develop team members in food preparation, service standards and company procedure Customer Experience Ensure a welcoming and engaging café environment for customers. Maintain high service standards and respond effectively to customer feedback or issues. Health and Safety Ensure full compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety and hygiene regulations. Maintain accurate food safety records including temperature checks, cleaning schedules and allergen management. Ensure the café operates in line with company policies and local authority requirements. Ensure all equipment is operated and maintained in line with the trained instructions. Operational Management Work closely with the FOB Manager and Centre Manager to maximise café sales and profitability. Monitor daily performance, manage costs and support initiatives to increase revenue Oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the café across both front and back of house. Ensure the café is clean, well-presented and operating efficiently at all times. Role Requirements Minimum two years' experience as a chef and managing other people Experience with managing purchasing and stock control Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate Attention to detail and strong organisational skills Ability to work under own initiative Strong decision making and excellent communication skills Applicants should reply with covering letter and CV
