We are seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to play a key role in the successful delivery of a diverse programme of capital construction and highways projects. You will ensure that all on-site works meet required standards of quality, safety, compliance, and specification across small to major project schemes.In this role, you will act as the on-site representative for the project team-monitoring construction progress, ensuring compliance with technical standards and legislation, and supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe, and durable infrastructure.

Your new role

Oversee and monitor construction activities on site, ensuring compliance with design standards, specifications, permits, and legal requirements.
Carry out regular inspections of workmanship, materials, and construction methods to maintain consistent quality.
Ensure all health and safety protocols are followed, maintaining a safe working environment for workers and the public.
Check that traffic management arrangements and road markings comply with relevant regulations.
Attend sites daily, conducting surveys and inspections in line with industry legislation.
Collaborate and meet regularly with contractors, developers, and project engineers to ensure timely and compliant project delivery.
Maintain detailed site records, including photos, inspection notes, and material receipts.
Monitor progress against project timelines and budgets, reporting potential delays or issues.
Assist with issue resolution, change management, and verification of completed works for payment purposes.
Review work programmes, drawings, and 'as-built' documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Support continual service improvement by providing constructive feedback on processes and procedures.
Work flexibly and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

What you'll need to succeed

Demonstrable experience in the highways, streets, or construction industry at a project delivery level.
Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, such as: Highways and road works legislation
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
Traffic and transport-related regulations
Other relevant UK construction and environmental standards

Technical expertise in delivering highways or traffic-related projects.
Proven experience managing contractors and sub-contractors.
Excellent communication skills-capable of engaging stakeholders, the public, and project teams.
Financial awareness and experience supporting budget management.
Ability to produce clear written reports and documentation.
Competence with IT systems and software used in project delivery.
