We have been engaged by a well-established engineering business based in Birmingham to recruit a Junior Machinist on their behalf. The Opportunity This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for a hands-on machinist who is looking to develop their skills in a varied and technically challenging workshop environment. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to both milling and turning operations, whilst also building knowledge of hydraulic systems and components

making this a well-rounded role for someone serious about a career in precision engineering. Key Responsibilities Operate manual and/or CNC milling and turning machines to produce, repair, and overhaul components to engineering drawings and specifications. Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, and associated tooling safely and accurately. Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and technical specifications. Carry out repair and overhaul of mechanical and hydraulic components, including inspection, measurement, and refurbishment. Assist with the assembly, testing, and inspection of hydraulic systems and sub-assemblies where required. Work collaboratively with senior machinists and the workshop supervisor to meet production and overhaul deadlines. Skills & Experience Required Essential: Demonstrable experience or formal training in milling and/or turning operations. Ability to set up and operate manual or CNC milling and lathe machinery. Competent in reading and working to engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances. Practical and methodical approach to work with strong attention to detail. Good understanding of workshop health and safety practices. Desirable: Some knowledge of hydraulic systems, components, or fluid power principles. Experience working in a repair and overhaul environment. Relevant engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3, Apprenticeship, or equivalent). Familiarity with precision measurement equipment such as micrometres, verniers, and bore gauges. Understanding of materials, surface finishes, and basic machining parameters.
