Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function on a major energy infrastructure project in Edinburgh.
This role will take full ownership of commercial strategy, financial performance, and contractual compliance across the project lifecycle. Operating under FIDIC conditions, you will play a key role in managing risk, driving value, and ensuring successful project delivery.
You will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and work closely with senior project stakeholders to optimise commercial outcomes and maintain strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all commercial activities across a large-scale energy infrastructure project
Provide strategic commercial direction to ensure successful project delivery and profitability
Oversee the administration and management of FIDIC contracts, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation
Lead subcontract procurement strategy, including tendering, negotiation, and contract award
Manage commercial teams, providing leadership, mentoring, and development
Oversee subcontractor valuations, payments, and final account agreements
Ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, and cost/value reconciliation across the project
Deliver detailed and timely commercial reporting to senior stakeholders
Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and capitalise on opportunities
Lead on change management, claims, and dispute resolution processes
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and the supply chain
Collaborate with Project and Site Managers to drive performance and value engineering initiatives
Key Requirements
Proven experience operating at
Commercial Manager or Managing Quantity Surveyor level
Strong working knowledge of
FIDIC contracts (essential)
Significant experience within the
energy sector , ideally including:
High Voltage (HV) works
Substation projects
Demonstrable experience managing large-scale infrastructure or utilities projects
Strong leadership experience, including managing and developing commercial teams
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
Excellent commercial acumen with a strategic, solutions-focused approach
Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-value project environment
Desirable
Chartered status (e.g. RICS)
Experience within utilities / renewables / electrical infrastructure sectors
Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
