Consultant Engineer – Electrical Engineering Location: Barrow / Filton – Hybrid (Dependent on business needs) Salary: £56,000+ (Commensurate with skills and experience) Job Description You will work as the Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) within SSNA’s Steam Integrated Delivery Team (SIDT). This role offers significant development across requirement generation, development of verification and validation plans, and the facilitation of equipment delivery and parallel technology realization. Core Duties
Act as the electrical SME, providing technical leadership and guidance to cross‑discipline internal and external stakeholders, including equipment suppliers. Manage the electrical interface with the electrical power system, ensuring a best‑for‑programme approach is adopted. Take technical ownership of the end‑to‑end delivery of key technology readiness projects, demonstrating required maturity before platform integration. Support the technical delivery of facility requirements needed to implement technology readiness projects and facilitate end product verification and validation activities. Undertake technical risk analysis and develop risk mitigation plans to support equipment delivery into the SSNA platform.
Essential Skills
Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc (Hons), BEng (Hons), or MEng (Hons)) with CEng or working towards chartership. Knowledge of integration of power electronic conversion equipment into power system designs (inverters, rectifiers, active front end, filter interactions). Knowledge and experience of key power system interface requirements (power system stability, power quality, protection coordination). Experience in developing and delivering power system/equipment‑level verification and validation plans, including technology readiness level strategies. Knowledge of the complete engineering life cycle of delivering equipment or systems in a complex engineering environment with competing requirements (requirement generation through test and commissioning).
