Consultant Psychiatrist - Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) based at Saffron House in High Wycombe. You will lead clinical care for adults of working age and older adults at risk of mental health crises, with responsibility for diagnosis, management and treatment.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide senior medical expertise and clinical leadership within the CRHTT, overseeing care for patients personally managed as well as those managed by staff under your supervision.
  • Collaborate closely with the team manager and other senior colleagues to support efficient operation and ongoing development of the service.
  • Deliver direct clinical care and ensure active medical involvement in reviewing and updating care plans.
  • Prepare written correspondence documenting assessments, treatment plans, progress and discharges using the Trust’s IT and clinical record systems.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies, facilitating smooth transitions into and out of the team through effective liaison.
  • Contribute to accurate recording of clinical data, participate in audits and maintain compliance with Trust and external agency requirements.
  • Attend directorate and managerial meetings such as the Medical Advisory Committee and other liaison meetings to align with service goals.
  • Engage in professional development by participating in CPD peer groups, clinical supervision, and maintaining a CPD programme.
  • Participate in cross‑cover arrangements, out‑of‑hours rotas and daytime cover rota as part of team working.
  • Enjoy entitlement to study leave (up to 30 days over 3 years) and related expenses (£2,700 over 3 years) as per Trust policies.

Qualifications

  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification.
  • Eligibility for Section 12 (Mental Health Act 1983) approval.
  • Higher degree or equivalent in a relevant medical, psychological or other field, or postgraduate teaching qualification.

Training

  • Higher specialist training in dual or general adult/older adult psychiatry in an approved training post for a minimum of three years, or equivalent training abroad, or previous consultant experience.
  • CCT in Psychiatry, or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of achieving CCT at interview, or CESR.
  • Sub‑speciality or other specialist clinical training relevant to the post, such as CRHT experience.

Clinical Experience

  • Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in general adult/older adult psychiatry.
  • Experience of close collaborative work with social care and other agencies.
  • Application of evidence‑based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group.
  • Development of close collaboration with primary care services.
  • Experience of early intervention in psychosis services and knowledge of prodromal states.

Ability

  • Ability to undertake the full range of consultant responsibilities.
