Consultant Radiologist - Nuclear Medicine | Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

New Today

Overview The highly regarded and forward-thinking radiology department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a radiologist with a specialist interest in Nuclear Medicine, who will need to be an ARSAC licence holder. Department and Service Details The Nuclear Medicine department is based in Basingstoke. We offer a range of nuclear medicine examinations imaged on our GE SPECT-CT scanner which was installed in 2020, including renal, bone and sentinel node imaging, with a potential for developing the service further, though HHFT does not have a PET-CT scanner at present. The role also involves a share of the general workload in the department, with general cross‑sectional and ultrasound imaging, taking part in the acute rota and consultant‑led on‑call at either Basingstoke or Winchester. The post is primarily to support the nuclear medicine department, which is currently provided by a visiting radiologist from another trust who works 2 sessions for HHFT, giving additional local expertise and providing resilience. It will also support the general rota with both acute and outpatient reporting, including supporting the on‑call rota. While on‑call will be based on one site, there may be a requirement to perform sessions at any of our 3 main sites. Personalised Job Plans & Funding Personalised job plans are negotiable and subject to change according to service need. The individual job plans will depend on the skills and preferences of the successful candidate. The post is funded for up to 7 PA incorporating up to 5.5 sessions of DCC (including approximately 0.9 PA on call) and 1.5 sessions of SPA. A detailed job plan will be agreed after successful appointment and before starting in post. Transition Phase and Facilities We are in an exciting transition phase for the department as we continue a 10‑year, £40 million programme of equipment replacement and department refurbishment. Our two acute sites at Basingstoke and Winchester provide radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, MRI and interventional radiology services, most standard clinical specialties are provided at both sites. The Winchester site houses the hyper‑acute stroke unit for the trust and is developing a cardiac CT service. The Breast Screening Unit is located at Winchester. The Basingstoke site houses a tertiary pseudomyxoma and peritoneal malignancy unit, tertiary liver surgery unit, and a tertiary haemophilia centre. The Basingstoke site is also a designated trauma unit within the Trauma Network. Nuclear Medicine is situated on the Basingstoke Site. Andoversite is being developed as a Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). It has a newly developed CT and MRI unit as well as offering radiography, Dexa and ultrasound. Smaller community imaging facilities also exist at Alton (radiography Community Hospital and ultrasound). Tertiary links are in place with Southampton, Oxford, Guildford and Frimley for various clinical pathways.
