Our global network includes facilities in Canada, the United States and Hungary ensuring regional expertise and global strength.The Position: Reporting to the Service Supervisor, the Controls Software Designer (Field Service) will service world-class automation solutions. Duties involve design of control software, integration of software with electrical and mechanical systems, process development and machine installation at customer sites worldwide. Programming and integration assignments involve leading-edge technologies and processes utilizing PLCs, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, laser and other controllers. Consistent travel to customer locations is required.What You’ll Be DoingDesign and develop software programs (PLC and/or PC based) specific to customer and project requirements based on standard Eclipse programming methodsDebug and commission control systems at our facility during the system integration stage and then at the customer site during installationTravel as required to customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning, and training dutiesSelect, test, and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems, and lasersWork with other members of the Controls Engineering department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced costWork with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation systemProvide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify software program completenessProvide accurate documentation for each projectAdvise customer on solving technical problemsProvide customer with training specific to their current project (i.e. machine operation, programming principles and program structure)Ability to work within a team environment and actively participate in group meetingsWhat We’re Looking For5+ years of experience within a custom automation environment (OEM)A post-secondary engineering degree, diploma or equivalent, specializing in electrical, systems or computer engineeringStrong programming, mechanical and electrical problem-solving skillsUnderstanding of robotics, control systems and machine operation with hands-on experienceA self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervisionExpectation of travel is less than 75% of time; however, this may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project needsAbility to travel on short notice (Less than 24 hours) in machine down situationsMust possess a valid driver\'s licenseWhat We OfferReimbursement for tuition and professional dues3 weeks of vacation and 3 paid personal days (to start)RRSP matching programFree snack programWhy Join UsHere at Eclipse Automation, creation and innovation are at our core, and our culture reflects that.
