The Position: Data Engineer (Nuclear)
The Data Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining robust data ingestion, transformation, and loading pipelines that underpin the analytics platform on Hinkley Point C (HPC). Working from designs and requirements defined within the data team, this role ensures the delivery of high-quality and reliable data to support business intelligence and analytical outcomes.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Data Engineer will include:
Review and interpret requirements and solution designs to deliver scalable, maintainable data products. Understand solution architecture and business objectives, ensuring data products support monitoring of safety, quality, time, and cost. Design and implement data pipelines connecting operational systems to analytics and BI platforms. Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes to deliver reliable, high-performing data flows. Document source-to-target mappings and transformation logic. Re-engineer manual data processes to enable automation, scalability, and reuse. Support the development and operation of batch and streaming data processing solutions. Build reusable BI datasets and semantic models to support reporting and analytics. Ensure data is high quality, accessible, and aligned with data standards and architectural principles. Apply agile delivery practices using Azure DevOps to manage work items, dependencies, and issues.
Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
Degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in a relevant technical or business-related discipline. Proven experience with CI/CD practices aligned to agile delivery, including automated build and release pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps). Significant experience developing and optimising complex SQL queries on modern data platforms (e.g. Databricks SQL). Experience programming in object-oriented or functional such as Python or Scala. Experience using statistical or analytical (e.g. R) to support data transformation or analytical workloads where required. Strong understanding of data ethics, security, and privacy obligations, including GDPR, export controls, and intellectual property requirements. Previous experience working in nuclear or highly regulated environments is desirable but not essential
Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
