The role of a Disclosure Officer is vital for conducting thorough investigations into criminal activities related to environmental offences, supporting our goal to protect and enhance the environment.
As a Disclosure Officer, you will be part of the national team within the National Environmental Crime Unit, handling serious environmental crime cases and water investigations in accordance with legislation such as the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
You will be the principal disclosure officer on specific cases, collaborating with investigation teams and legal services to provide expert advice on disclosure matters.
The role involves managing complex investigations with large volumes of evidence, ensuring proper handling according to legal standards.
The Team
The disclosure team is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit, focusing on major investigations into environmental offences, waste criminality, and water-related crimes.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience as a Principal Disclosure Officer, including preparing unused schedules for court cases.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
- Understanding of the Attorney General’s Guidelines 2020 and 2022.
Desirable Skills
- High computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel and managing large databases.
- Knowledge of criminal investigations and relevant legislation such as the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and Regulation of Investigative Powers Act 2000.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to produce accurate reports within deadlines.
- Strong communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences across wide geographical areas.
- Experience in managing complex workloads independently.

We support flexible working arrangements and expect some face-to-face meetings. Candidates may need to undertake incident response roles, which could involve additional payments and training. Successful candidates must pass NPPV3 and SC vetting processes.
