EC&I Engineer – COMAH / Chemical Plant - Manchester - £65,000 - £70,000
About the Company
Our client is a global chemical manufacturer in the Manchester area who is looking to add an EC&I Engineer to their Engineering team. This is a hands-on and varied role that combines engineering design, maintenance, safety management, and project delivery, with opportunities to contribute to plant-wide improvement initiatives.
EC&I Engineer - The Details
Salary to £70,000
Chartership support and fees paid

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (with some flexibility in working hours)
Work Location: Greater Manchester EC&I Engineer - Requirements
A degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or related field).
5–10 years’ experience in EC&I engineering within high-hazard chemical, petrochemical, or similar heavy industry.
Strong knowledge of PLC/DCS systems, instrumentation calibration, loop checking, and functional safety.
Working knowledge of ATEX, DSEAR, COMAH, SIL and hazard studies (HAZOP, LOPA).
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it (). Conduct detailed engineering design of mechanical systems and components. EC&I Engineer – Responsibilities
Lead and develop EC&I standards (ATEX, DSEAR, SIL, functional safety) in line with legal and industry requirements.
Manage and deliver projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring on-time, on-budget execution.
Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and reliability improvements.
Ensure regulatory compliance with COMAH, IEC 61508/61511, and other safety-critical standards.
Act as the go-to authority for control systems (PLC, DCS, SIS, instrumentation) across the site.
Mentor colleagues, manage contractors, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver safe and efficient outcomes.
Support the Engineering Manager with budget planning and cost control (projects up to £150k). About Us
