Are you an SR141-authorised commissioning engineer looking for a new challenge? Do you enjoy taking ownership of HV substation protection and control commissioning from end to end? Do you want a role where you're trusted to lead on-site and work with some of the UK's most critical energy projects?

What will you be doing? You'll be a key part of the commissioning team for protection and control systems on HV substations (132kV400kV), with responsibilities including: Planning and carrying out site acceptance testing and commissioning for protection and control systems in line with SR141 commissioning authorisation and approved procedures Performing functional and performance testing on protection systems, control systems, control panels and associated secondary equipment and infrastructure Witnessing and supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT) against approved test documentation Ensuring installation, test and commissioning works are delivered to agreed technical methods, procedures and standards Attending and providing input to SR106 commissioning panel meetings Producing, collating and managing the project commissioning file Controlling drawings and schematics, including mark-ups and updates arising from commissioning Developing and reviewing commissioning and test documentation, including Commissioning Switching Programmes, Method Statements, test reports, certificates and handover records Deploying configuration and setting files to SCADA BCUs, RTUs, protection relays and network devices (such as Ethernet switches), and verifying correct operation Defining site equipment and materials needed to support commissioning activities, and managing spares and test equipment Controlling LOTO in line with safe working procedures, including permits where required Identifying, investigating and resolving technical issues and faults during commissioning and energisation Liaising with project managers, site teams and other stakeholders to keep delivery aligned and on track Providing safety leadership and reinforcing health, safety and environmental best practice on site

Where you'll be doing it You'll be joining a specialist engineering business focused on operational technology and digital transformation, delivering advanced system integration projects across highly regulated sectors. They work on critical infrastructure in energy, water, renewables and manufacturing, operating in complex HV substation and grid environments and supporting large-scale, long-term programmes of work.

What you'll need To succeed in this role, you'll need: A suitable qualification or strong experience in an electrical engineering discipline Current or previous National Grid SR141 (or BP141/TP141) authorisation essential Proven, extensive experience commissioning HV substations (132kV400kV), protection and control systems and grid infrastructure Strong understanding of electrical systems, control schemes, protection relays, grid codes and relevant industry standards Knowledge of communication networks and protocols including IEC 61850, GOOSE, and common media (Ethernet over fibre, serial copper, etc.) Confidence with Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting Experience deploying configuration files and carrying out verification on electrical devices Experience writing and contributing to test and commissioning specifications and plans Experience with industrial SCADA systems Excellent communication and teamworking skills, with a structured and analytical approach Ability to lead and work as part of a team, work well under pressure and to deadlines, and motivate others to do the same Flexibility in methods of working to achieve the best outcomes Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites across the UK
