Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management & Internal Controls

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an enterprise-wide risk and control framework with specific emphasis on Health and Safety risks.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritise operational, safety, and compliance risks across the organisation.
  • Design and monitor preventive and detective controls to mitigate identified risks.
  • Ensure risk registers, control assessments, and incident logs are accurate, up to date, and auditable.

Health & Safety Governance

  • Lead the development and oversight of Health and Safety risk management processes in line with applicable legislation and standards (e.g. ISO 45001).
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Oversee hazard identification, risk assessments, and control effectiveness reviews.
  • Support the investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.

Monitoring, Assurance & Reporting

  • Conduct regular control testing, audits, and assurance activities related to Health and Safety and operational risk.
  • Track control effectiveness and remediation actions, escalating issues where required.
  • Prepare clear, concise risk and safety reports for senior management, committees, and regulators.
  • Monitor emerging risks, regulatory changes, and industry trends impacting Health and Safety.

Stakeholder Engagement & Culture

  • Partner with operational leaders, Health and Safety teams, and compliance functions to embed risk-aware and safety-first practices.
  • Provide guidance and training to managers and staff on risk management, controls, and Health and Safety responsibilities.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement mindset across the organisation.

Continuous Improvement

  • Review and enhance risk and control processes based on incidents, audit findings, and performance metrics.
  • Support business change initiatives by assessing Health and Safety and operational risks and recommending appropriate controls.


Skills & Experience Needed

Essential

  • Proven experience in risk management, internal controls, or assurance roles with a strong Health and Safety focus.
  • Experience developing and maintaining compliance and risk registers, control frameworks, and incident management processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate risk clearly at all levels of the organisation.

Desirable

  • Professional qualifications in Risk Management, Health & Safety, Audit, or Compliance (e.g. NEBOSH, ISO 45001, IRM).
  • Experience working in regulated or high-risk environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise risk management systems and safety management systems.
