Fire & Compliance Engineer
West Midlands | Permanent | Full Time | On-Site
Take Ownership of Fire Performance in a Manufacturing Environment
An established manufacturer supplying the commercial construction sector is seeking a Fire & Compliance Engineer to take technical ownership of fire, smoke and acoustic performance across its product range.
This is a hands-on engineering role within a product design and manufacturing environment — not a consultancy position.
You will act as the internal technical authority for fire performance, ensuring products are correctly designed, justified and supported by robust test evidence in line with British and European standards.
The Role
This position sits within Engineering & Quality and supports product design, certification and customer-facing technical activity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading interpretation and application of fire, smoke and acoustic standards (BS / EN / Building Regulations)
- Reviewing and managing fire test reports, classifications, assessments and certification evidence
- Defining correct product application and limitations of use
- Supporting engineering teams with compliant, value-engineered design improvements
- Acting as the technical liaison with external test houses and certification bodies
- Supporting Sales and tendering teams with technically robust fire-rated solutions
- Contributing to certification maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives
You will play a key role in reducing ambiguity in compliance, ensuring products are engineered correctly from first principles and supported by defensible evidence.
Candidate Profile
- Experience working with fire-rated construction or building products (e.g. access panels, doorsets, partitions or similar passive fire systems)
- Background within a fire testing environment or a product manufacturer
- Strong working knowledge of:
- BS 476 / EN 1634
- UK Building Regulations / Approved Document B
- Assessment and extended application principles
- Ability to interpret fire test evidence and translate regulatory requirements into practical engineering decisions
- Degree in Fire Engineering or related discipline preferred
You will be technically confident, structured in your approach and comfortable acting as the internal authority on fire performance.
Why This Role Is Different
- Genuine ownership of fire compliance within a manufacturing business
- Direct influence over product design and development
- Visible technical authority role
- Long-term impact on certification robustness and engineering standards
This position would suit a fire engineer currently working within a test house, certification body or manufacturer who wants to step into a broader technical ownership role within industry.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Applicants must already have unrestricted right to work in the UK
