We are recruiting for a Head of Materials on behalf of a global engineering and industrial services leader, recognised for delivering reliability, safety, and performance across a complex, high‑value fleet operating nationwide. In this pivotal role, you will take full strategic and operational ownership of the materials function, overseeing planning, control, and supply performance across multiple engineering hubs. You will drive efficiency, standardisation, and resilience across a multi‑site operation, supported by an outstanding benefits package designed to reward top‑tier leadership talent.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Materials or Supply Chain Leader who excels in fast‑paced, high‑demand environments such as Logistics, complex Manufacturing, Automotive, Aerospace, or Defence where precision, reliability, and safety are critical.

What You Will Gain

This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of the materials strategy and inventory control across multiple sites, ensuring every component, process, and decision drives seamless operations and peak performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead inventory control, overseeing material planning, control, and audit accuracy through advanced asset management systems.
  • Build a resilient and responsive supply chain, anticipating challenges and working closely with suppliers to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Champion continuous improvement by regulating and streamlining processes, embedding lean principles, and introducing clear visual management practices across sites.
  • Partner with production, engineering and suppliers to ensure materials flow efficiently and effectively.
  • Lead with safety in mind, fostering a proactive culture that meets and exceeds operational and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee nationwide inventory operation covering major product lines, shaping strategy and driving performance across multiple sites.
  • Introduce world‑class SKU management, embed consistent best practices, and build high‑performing teams that thrive on continuous improvement.
  • Proactively solve problems, improve processes, and ensure materials performance supports every part of the business.

What You Will Bring

  • Proven experience leading at a senior level, perhaps as a Materials Manager, Supply Chain Manager, or Logistics Controller.
  • Deep understanding of inventory systems, procurement processes, and forecasting tools.
  • Background in complex, high‑demand industries such as logistics, aerospace, maritime, or heavy automotive.
  • Strong track record of implementing world‑class SKU management and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high‑performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across production, engineering and suppliers.
  • Willingness to travel between sites, typically two to three times per month.

This position is subject to standard pre‑employment checks, including references, medical assessment and drug & alcohol screening.
