A distinguished and academically focused Catholic boys' independent school in the prestigious Kensington area seeks an inspiring and experienced Head of Religious Education for a full-time, permanent position commencing in September. This is a significant opportunity to lead and shape the spiritual and theological development of our students within a supportive and faith-based learning environment.
- About Our Learning Community: Our well-established independent school in central Kensington is dedicated to the education and formation of young men within the Catholic tradition. We have a strong commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of each student, nurturing their faith, moral compass, and intellectual curiosity. The Religious Education department plays a vital role in the life of the school, fostering theological understanding and spiritual growth.
- About the Role:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Religious Education department, ensuring the delivery of an outstanding and engaging curriculum across all key stages, including GCSE and potentially A-Level Religious Studies.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies and resources to inspire students and promote a deep understanding of Catholic theology, scripture, ethics, and world religions.
- Lead, support, and mentor a team of Religious Education teachers, fostering a collaborative and reflective departmental culture rooted in the Catholic ethos.
- Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of the Religious Education curriculum, ensuring high standards and promoting students' spiritual literacy and critical thinking.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning within the department, implementing strategies for continuous improvement and ensuring best practices align with the school's Catholic identity.
- Contribute to the spiritual life of the school through participation in liturgies, prayer services, and other faith-based activities.
- Manage departmental resources effectively, including the selection of appropriate theological texts and resources.
- Work collaboratively with the Chaplaincy and other departments to promote the Catholic ethos throughout the school community.
- Ideal Candidate:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field, and a deep understanding of Catholic teachings and traditions.
- Significant and successful experience teaching Religious Education at the secondary level, with a proven track record of leadership and raising student achievement, including experience with GCSE and potentially A-Level Religious Studies.
- A thorough and current understanding of the Religious Education curriculum and effective pedagogical approaches within a Catholic context.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and a team of teachers within a Catholic framework.
- A demonstrable passion for Religious Education and the ability to engage young men in meaningful discussions about faith, ethics, and the spiritual life.
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment, departmental management, and contributing to the spiritual life of a school.
- A strong and demonstrable commitment to the principles and practices of Catholic education.
- Highly competitive salary (commensurate with experience and independent school pay scales, including a leadership allowance).
- Excellent opportunities for professional development and spiritual formation within a supportive Catholic independent school environment.
- A chance to lead a vital department within a school with a strong Catholic identity and a commitment to the spiritual growth of its students.
- A prestigious Kensington location with excellent transport links.
