About the Role
Interview for this role will commence from August 4th a 2 week period
We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Head Teacher to lead the launch and development of a brand-new SEN school in Wigan for up to 60 pupils. This is a unique opportunity to shape the ethos, culture, and strategic direction of a school from the ground up.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the pre-opening phase, including recruitment, curriculum design, policy development, and building strong relationships with the local community and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning and operational setup of the new SEN school.
- Develop and implement a high-quality, inclusive curriculum tailored to a diverse range of special educational needs.
- Recruit, inspire, and manage a dedicated team of teaching and support staff.
- Establish a safe, nurturing, and aspirational learning environment.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and safeguarding requirements.
- Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, local authorities, and external agencies.
- Monitor and evaluate school performance, driving continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant leadership qualifications (e.g., NPQH).
- Proven leadership experience within a Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting.
- Deep understanding of a wide range of SEN, including ASD, SEMH, and complex learning needs.
- Experience in school development, improvement planning, and team leadership.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- 5 years experience in setting up or significantly developing a new school or SEN provision.
- Familiarity with therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches to education.
