Highways Project/Design Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Highways Engineer to lead the design and delivery of traffic and highway improvement projects. This is a senior technical role where you will combine AutoCAD design expertise with strong project management skills to deliver safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions.

Projects include sustainable transport, active travel (cycling and walking) as well as bus priority schemes. This is a full-time contract position. The rate on offer is £40 - £45 per hour - negotiable for the right candidate. Flexible working and working from home arrangements are available.

Key Responsibilities:

·Lead on the design of traffic engineering schemes using AutoCAD and related software.

·Manage projects from concept to completion, including planning, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement.

·Ensure compliance with UK traffic regulations, design standards, and safety principles.

·Oversee a team of design and project delivery specialists

·Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

·Liaise with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.

About You

·Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

·Extensive experience in traffic engineering and highway design.

·Proficiency in AutoCAD and associated design tools.

·Strong project management skills, including budget control and programme delivery.

·Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
