The Role and Department

The purpose of this position is to assist the University in developing research impact to enhance its societal benefits, supporting the development and submission of impact case studies, engagement measures, and narrative statements for the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

The post-holder will interpret REF impact rules, provide advice and guidance to academic leaders and researchers, and support impact and engagement activities to achieve broad, rigorous, and significant research impact.

Working with academics, professional support colleagues, and the Impact & Engagement team, the post-holder will help develop a community of practice to facilitate high-quality impact evidence collection. They will assist in engagement activities, producing plans to maximize impact potential, and support the critique and writing of impact case studies, especially within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

The post-holder will also support impact recording in IT systems, encouraging researchers and departments to share impact-related information for REF, KEF, HE-BCI, and other reporting requirements.

Additional duties include supporting academics and staff in using impact systems, embedding impact into research culture, and communicating research impact effectively, including preparing impact case studies for REF2029.

This permanent, part-time role (0.5FTE) is based mainly at Boldon House, Durham, a vibrant hybrid-working environment designed for collaborative professional services teams.
