Contract: Infrastructure Engineer (Linux Administration & Server Hardware)
Location: Glasgow (hybrid - 3 days onsite)

Seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support a large-scale enterprise environment. This role centres on troubleshooting complex system and platform issues, while contributing to the ongoing improvement of operational processes and tooling.
This is a hands-on position, ideal for someone comfortable working across Linux-based systems and underlying Server Hardware. You will be involved in incident resolution, problem analysis, and driving improvements to system reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate and resolve escalated infrastructure and platform incidents across Linux-based environments
Perform low-level troubleshooting across physical server hardware and associated technologies
Utilise remote management tools (out-of-band / lights-out) for diagnostics and recovery
Take ownership of incidents end-to-end, from triage through to resolution and post-incident review
Collaborate with engineering and support teams to identify root causes and implement fixes
Develop and maintain runbooks and operational documentation
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, reducing incident frequency and recovery times
Build or enhance scripts/tools to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency
Required Skills & Experience
Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills
Solid understanding of server hardware (e.g. disks, RAID, NICs, firmware) and failure modes
Experience with remote management technologies (e.g. iDRAC, iLO, IPMI, Redfish)
Proven ability to manage and resolve incidents in a production environment
Familiarity with reliability concepts such as SLIs/SLOs, monitoring, and incident metrics
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience producing clear technical documentation and runbooks
Desirable Skills
Scripting or automation experience (e.g. Bash, Python)
Exposure to virtualisation or container platforms
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools
