We are seeking to appoint a Kitchen Porter to join the catering team. This is a term-time position working 38 weeks of the year. The normal working week is Monday to Friday from 11.00am to 5.45pm. Required as soon as possible. The Kitchen Porter works within a team of 34 in-house staff in the catering department, which delivers lunches to over 1,700 people on a daily basis during term time and caters for regular school functions throughout the term, both during the day and occasionally in the evenings and at weekends. Primarily based in our main production kitchen, the position has responsibility for the cleaning of the kitchen and store rooms whilst adhering to all current health, hygiene and safety regulations. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Work throughout the day in the pot wash/plate wash area, keeping washing up to minimum levels Clean any equipment (boiler, ovens, slicers, etc.) used in the main kitchen/pastry kitchen during the day Ensure hand towel units and hand soap units are filled up at all times Ensure all bins are emptied regularly throughout the day Ensure spillages are cleaned up immediately Assist the Head Porter with any other duties as required Other Duties Assist in ensuring all areas of the kitchen(s) are covered and operating to the highest standards Ensure your working area is cleaned down in line with the daily cleaning schedule Ensure all cleaning schedules are completed on a daily/weekly basis Person Specification The successful candidate will: Have the ability to work within a team in a fast-paced, pressurised kitchen environment whilst maintaining high standards Be physically able to lift and move light kitchen equipment manual handling training will be provided Have good communication skills with an approachable manner contact with pupils and staff is on a daily basis, and maintaining open communication is essential Experience of working within catering is desirable, and basic knowledge of food hygiene would be an advantage, but full training can be provided.
