Knowledge Lawyer for the Tax Practice Group (the "Group"), EMEA The EMEA Tax Knowledge Lawyer plays a pivotal strategic role in delivering high-value legal insights across the EMEA Tax Practice Group. Collaborating closely with Tax Partners and the broader Knowledge team, this role requires deep expertise and the capability to drive the creation of client-facing content, thought leadership, and contributions to proposals and business development initiatives. Key responsibilities include monitoring and communicating legislative developments, designing and delivering training, and curating industry-specific know‑how. The role also supports lawyers with the development of complex precedents, responds to lawyer queries, and leads efforts in policy engagement and the adoption of knowledge systems. Main responsibilities
Knowledge and Expertise: Provide legal input into client-facing and demand-generating initiatives, including client training and legal content for proposals and other business development resources. Identify tax hot topics and write, commission, and deliver content such as alerts, thought leadership reports, and talking points. Current awareness and commercial/industry know‑how: Swift identification, curation, and explanation of key changes in tax legislation and case law of significance to our clients. Work with other Practice Groups and Industry Groups to provide holistic legal, commercial, and industry know‑how. Client‑facing sessions: Guidance on agenda formation for client-facing sessions and conferences, and providing baseline presentations. Lawyer requests: Respond to ad hoc inquiries from lawyers, establishing yourself as a go‑to expert on firm and Group resources. Precedents: Review, draft, develop, and automate the Group's precedents for EU‑wide tax filings, advice, and presentations. Know‑how development: Populate global knowledge repositories and identify gaps, ensuring content development is progressive. Training: Identify training needs and deliver, participate in, and promote training initiatives. Policy initiatives and capacity‑building: Participate in and respond to policy consultations and regulatory developments.
Service Orientation
Promote a strong knowledge culture and build lasting relationships across the firm. Advocate for Knowledge, nurture relationships with trainees and junior lawyers, and support diversity, inclusion, CSR, and pro bono activities.
Work Management
Pursue service and operational efficiencies and contribute to best practices. Support and drive the adoption of Knowledge systems, owning delivery and scheduling meetings to promote them. Align with the Group's business and Knowledge plans, providing input and structuring priorities accordingly.
Skills and experience
Law degree and current license to practice law (or eligibility). Substantial experience as a practicing lawyer with high tax technical ability in corporate, international, and transfer pricing. Excellent English language skills, confident communication in a multicultural environment. Experience working directly with senior counterparts on strategy and execution. Strong time‑management, organization, word‑processing, and spreadsheet skills. Willingness to learn legal technology, including AI/GenAI and document automation.
Function The Knowledge function is a firm‑wide team of nearly 300 professionals, producing and providing high‑quality, relevant legal information for lawyers and clients. It focuses on content, systems, and culture.
Content – creating, collecting, and providing market‑leading precedents, practice notes, training materials, and other know‑how. Systems – designing user‑friendly platforms to store and deliver knowledge across offices. Culture – embedding Knowledge as a core part of every lawyer's role and aligning with global strategy.
Key relationships Clients include partners, lawyers, economists, and tax practitioners in the Group and practice group lawyers. Daily project assignments and direction come from the Group's Lead Knowledge Lawyer, Senior Knowledge Lawyers, and the Chair and steering committee. Liaise with Business Professional team members, especially within the Knowledge function, to ensure alignment with firm objectives and strategy.
