Job Description Lead DevOps Engineer | Contract AWS | Python | Cloud Platforms | DevOps Enablement
SR2 is supporting a public sector department delivering a major digital and cloud transformation programme, with a focus on improving platform reliability, scalability, and delivery across critical health services. We’re looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer to take ownership of DevOps delivery within a multidisciplinary team, remaining hands-on while setting direction and best practices across cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
The Role You’ll lead the design, build, and optimisation of cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, working closely with engineering, security, and delivery teams. This role suits someone who enjoys balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership in a regulated, high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities
\n Lead the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure on AWS
\n
Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines to support frequent and safe releases
\n
Act as the DevOps SME within delivery teams, setting standards and patterns
\n
Work closely with developers to enable automation, resilience, and scalability
\n
Embed security, monitoring, and operational best practice into platforms
\n
Support incident response, reliability improvements, and performance optimisation
\n
Essential
\n Strong experience working as a DevOps or Platform Engineer in cloud environments
\n
AWS experience across core services and cloud- architectures
\n
Python scripting experience for automation and tooling
\n
Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines (tooling flexible)
\n
Infrastructure as Code experience (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, similar)
\n
Experience working in regulated environments (public sector)
\n
Desirable
\n Containerisation experience (Docker, Kubernetes, or managed container services)
\n
Experience with monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions
\n
Knowledge of DevSecOps principles
\n
The Details
Contract role - 6 months IR35 - TBC - Rates for both inside and outside Rate: £550 – £650 per day (depending on experience) Location: London/Leeds
