Lead Maintenance Technician

We have a direct hire opportunity for a Lead Maintenance Technician who will support a food production company’s two facilities in Des Moines and Kent. They produce deli items such as pinwheel wraps, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, deli trays, and more.
In this role, you’ll oversee up to 4 mechanics on 2nd and 3rd shift at both the Kent and Des Moines facilities.
Be hands on with the troubleshooting and repairs to ensure equipment stays up and running.
Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to create the weekly work schedule for all three shifts, support training, and ensure safety and compliance procedures are being followed.
Be part of the lead team that supports all three shifts.

Pay and Shift Information:
Pay: $36/hour–$39/hour
Schedule Information:
Monday–Friday schedule with required overtime on weekends
Shift times may vary depending on where coverage is needed, with the main focus on supporting the 2nd and 3rd shift
1st shift: 6:00 am–2:30 pm
2nd shift: 2:00 pm–10:30 pm
3rd shift: 10:00 pm–6:30 am
Job Duties of the Lead Maintenance Technician:
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and automation issues on production and facility equipment
Perform light plumbing tasks such as repairing leaks and supporting wastewater processes
Run power lines and perform electrical work at 480V, 240V, and 120V levels
Support technicians with hands-on troubleshooting and repairs when needed
Observe equipment in operation and identify areas needing repair or modification
Assign repair priorities, estimate time and materials, and oversee non-routine maintenance work
Coordinate technician training and weekly schedules with the Maintenance Supervisor
Enforce company safety policies and ensure the team follows OSHA, USDA, FDA, and EPA regulations
Communicate company policy changes, safety updates, and performance expectations to technicians
Help maintain CMMS records and make sure technicians complete and follow up on work orders
Help coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs

Job Requirements of the Lead Maintenance Technician:
At least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience; food manufacturing is
1+ years of experience leading or supervising a maintenance team
Strong hands-on background in mechanical, electrical, and automation systems
Ability to troubleshoot high- and low-voltage systems, PLCs, and control circuits
Comfortable working in a refrigerated production environment (38°F)
Familiar with OSHA and food safety regulations, audits, and chemical safety practices
Experience with pneumatics, conveyors, cooling systems, and reading blueprints
Strong organization, communication, and time management skills
Basic computer and CMMS skills
