Role: Lead Mechanical Design Engineer\n\nLocation: Derby, Derbyshire\n\nSalary: £35-40k (Depending on Experience) + overtime premium (weekday - time and 1/4, Saturday - time and 1/2, Sunday - double time)\n\nHours per week: 37\n\n:\n\nThe purpose of the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer role is to carry out all aspects of mechanical design via production of 3D Models, General Arrangement drawings, and Design for Manufacture output in accordance with company procedure and/ or customer specification.\n\nLiaising with the Project Manager, and design team to ensure suitable resource allocation to projects.\n\nAct as a senior figure within the design team, promoting a collaborative and supportive work culture by leading by example wherever possible. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers to ensure the delivery of high-quality designs that align with the intended function of the equipment, are feasible to manufacture, and are completed in line with project schedules.\n\nDuties/Responsibilities:\n\n * Produce modifications, and improvements to existing equipment, and products\n\n * Identify and assess risks during the design stage related to performance, manufacturability, and lead times. Clearly communicate these risks to the project team and proactively adapt designs where necessary to support the overall success of the project.\n\n * Attend site surveys and customer meetings, when required, to gather accurate dimensions and relevant information to inform and support the design process.\n\n * Prepare 3D models in Autodesk Inventor to meet project demand, as necessary.\n\n * Produce 2D drawings from 3D models for customer review/ approval\n\n * Responsible for ensuring self-prepared drawings/ models/ documents are correct and concise prior to release\n\n * Understand the build sequence in design of all output, prior to release into production engineering.\n\n * Attend Design and/ or Manufacturability reviews, driving the 3D model where appropriate, and communicating design intent to the wider project team.\n\n * Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase departmental design\n\n * Maximise change capture within the department, ensuring all change is captured on projects.\n\n * Provide support to the wider project team, liaising with customers as required.\n\n * Complete adherence to ISO 9001 procedures for engineering department.\n\n * Responsible for achieving schedule adherence for all actions assigned to individual/ role.\n\n * Any other ad hoc duties as may be required, and as commensurate with the grade of post.\n\nExperience/Skill Set:\n\n * Ability to use Autodesk 3D Inventor & AutoCAD.\n\n * Understanding of manufacturing techniques and limitations.\n\n * A focus on quality adherence and timely output.\n\n * Flexibility to work overtime to achieve project plan as required.\n\n * Strong communicator with internal and external customers alike.\n\n * Team player, and able to communicate effectively.\n\n * Self-motivated with a proactive mindset and a strong sense of initiative.\n\n**Sponsorship is not available so you must have the full right to work in the UK both now, and in the future
