We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward‑thinking pharmacist to gain experience in Gastroenterology whilst the current post holder is on maternity leave.

The Gastroenterology service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust cares for over 6000 patients across 3 hospital sites, with over 1000 patients prescribed biologic therapy. As the successful candidate you will support the virtual Multidisciplinary Team reviewing patients prescribed biologic medicines, as well as provide clinical and directorate support to gastroenterology in‑patients, out‑patients and endoscopy services. A good understanding of the out‑of‑tariff funding process for medicines is required as you will be expected to monitor and manage funding applications for these drugs within Gastroenterology.

You will be self‑motivated and organised with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to develop effective working relationships with a wide range of professionals and have good IT skills to work with many different IT programs and databases.

Applicants should be a pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and hold a postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent experiential learning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop a high‑quality patient‑focused pharmacy service for Gastroenterology patients.
  • Take an active part in multidisciplinary team meetings for inflammatory bowel disease patients prescribed biologic medicines to ensure prescribing and dosing are appropriate.
  • Ensure all gastroenterology patients prescribed out‑of‑tariff medicines are funded appropriately.
  • Lead work with specialist nurses and consultants to implement biosimilar adoption programmes when appropriate products become available.
  • Facilitate the efficient and cost‑effective use of medicines within the speciality, provide a ward pharmacy service to Gastroenterology in‑patients and a pro‑active pharmacy service to endoscopy and Gastroenterology out‑patients.
  • Work with other specialist pharmacists to develop robust switching processes for future biologic switching programmes.
  • Report financial savings from MDTs, biosimilar switching and CIP schemes as appropriate.
  • Work with the Homecare Pharmacy Technician and other specialist pharmacists to improve mechanisms to minimise waste with Homecare biologics, including monitoring dose changes, prescription requests and medicine supplies.

Qualifications

  • Registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent experiential learning.
