Learning Support Assistant Hourly Rate: £15.55 (PAYE) - £17.60 (umbrella) Location: South East London Job Type: Part-time (26 hours per week, Monday-Thursday) Contract End Date: 27/03/2026 (with potential extension) We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide 1-to-1 support for a learner with challenging behaviour. This role is crucial in facilitating access to learning programmes and college services for young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Day-to-day of the role: Assist in the educational and social development of learners under the direction of support managers and curriculum team leaders. Support the development of self-advocacy and independent learning skills of learners. Contribute to the assessment of students’ learning and personal progression, working with relevant staff to develop person-centred support plans. Provide support and assistance to learners for their personal care, safety, and well-being. Anticipate barriers to learning and participation, developing intervention strategies to minimise difficulties. Ensure learners are able to access and fully utilise college support services and participate productively in college life. Manage and ensure the availability and operation of specialist equipment, assistive technologies, and/or facilities as necessary. Support learners with additional physical/medical needs as required. Report any mobility problems and other safety issues in line with college health and safety guidelines. Assist in the review of learners' progress, ensuring individual support plans are updated and teaching staff are informed of any barriers to learning. Liaise with external agencies such as parents and key workers, forwarding information to support managers. Attend meetings as required. Required Skills & Qualifications: Experience in supporting individuals with SEN, particularly those with challenging behaviour. Strong understanding of the educational and social development needs of learners. Ability to work effectively under the guidance of support managers and curriculum team leaders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in managing and operating specialist educational equipment and technologies.
