Job Description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in the South West of England, who are recruiting for a Litigation Solicitor on an initial three-month locum contract, with potential to go up to 12-months.


The position is due to start immediately, and they're looking for someone for 4 days p/week (circa 30 hours). The hourly rate of pay is circa £50 p/hour via an Umbrella company.


The successful candidate will be a fully qualified lawyer, either a fully qualified Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or barrister, and must be able to attend court for advocacy.


Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Advising on a range of civil and criminal litigation matters, including providing advice on probity and lawfulness issues relating to decisions
  • Handling legal casework with minimal supervision, effectively managing complex caseloads
  • Providing the drafting and advocacy on behalf of the Council, instructing Counsel where appropriate


Experience required:

  • Experience required in Local Government
  • Experience managing complex litigation cases


Working hours:

  • Approximately 30 hours per week across 4 days
