HSB Technical Ltd is supporting a well-established maritime engineering client within the Power & Propulsion sector who are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Newcastle. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering mechanical design solutions for specialist maritime deck machinery operating in demanding offshore environments. Equipment includes winches, reeler, cranes, and associated handling systems.

This role is ideally suited to an engineer with approximately 45 years post-graduate experience who is looking to further develop their design capability within a technically advanced marine engineering environment. You will be involved throughout the full product life cycle

from interpreting customer requirements during tender stages through to concept design, detailed engineering, manufacturing support, testing, and vessel installation. The position also offers opportunities to contribute to product development, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities:

Develop mechanical engineering design solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements. Support projects from requirements capture through concept development and detailed design. Produce and maintain technical documentation and engineering drawings. Assist with product development and continuous improvement activities. Support manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and in-service equipment performance. Investigate technical issues using structured problem-solving methods. Create assembly layouts and Engineering Bills of Materials within ERP/MRP systems. Carry out design assessments including hand calculations and FEA analysis where required. Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers throughout project delivery. Skills & Experience Required

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. Around 45 years experience in mechanical design engineering. Experience working with rotating or heavy mechanical equipment is advantageous. Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD systems such as Creo or AutoCAD. Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards. Exposure to product development and engineering lifecycle activities. Knowledge of BS EN 8888 and BS EN 22553 drawing standards desirable. Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to develop technically. Additional Requirements:
