Elevation Recruitment Group is proud to be working exclusively with a well-established Derbyshire-based engineering business to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer.

This organisation is a recognised leader in the design and delivery of specialist systems across the aerospace, energy, water, and industrial sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the full design lifecycle — from concept through to detailed design. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and clients to deliver bespoke engineering solutions that meet technical, compliance, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design custom mechanical systems to meet client specifications and safety standards Develop 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings Carry out engineering calculations and participate in technical design reviews Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and project teams to refine solutions Interpret technical specifications and ensure compliance with relevant standards Support R&D initiatives, continuous improvement, and occasional site surveys Provide technical support and manage project deadlines effectively

Candidate Profile

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) Proven mechanical design experience, ideally involving fabricated assemblies or structures Strong understanding of mechanical principles and design for manufacture Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and engineering tools (Excel, Mathcad, PDM/PLM) Strong communication and technical report-writing skills Desirable: Knowledge of structural codes, acoustics, noise control, and relevant regulatory standards (e.g. ATEX, CDM, Machinery Directive) Professional membership (IMechE, IOA) or working towards chartership is advantageous

Working hours: 37.5 per week (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm) 25 days holiday plus bank holidays 6% employer pension contribution Hybrid working: 4 days office-based (Mon–Thurs), Friday work from home
