Mechanical Design Engineer - Hydraulics / Heavy Machinery

We are working with a well-established engineering manufacturer specialising in highly specialised, heavy-duty equipment used in demanding environments. Due to continued growth and investment, they are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in hydraulic systems and mobile or industrial machinery.

This is an opportunity to join a close-knit engineering team working on complex, bespoke products where reliability and performance are critical.

The Role

You will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical systems, with a particular focus on hydraulics and associated components. The role will involve working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies for heavy-duty equipment
• Producing detailed 3D models and engineering drawings
• Supporting prototype development, testing, and validation
• Collaborating with manufacturing and production teams
• Ensuring designs meet relevant industry and safety standards
• Contributing to continuous improvement and product development initiatives

About You

We are looking for engineers with a strong practical understanding of machinery used in demanding environments.

You will ideally have:

• Experience in hydraulic system design (essential)
• Background in heavy machinery, off-highway vehicles, defence, or industrial equipment
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
• Understanding of fabrication, welding, and mechanical assemblies
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

• Experience with mobile equipment or tracked/wheeled machinery
• Knowledge of relevant standards and compliance requirements
