Job Description

Role & What’s in it for the applicant and why would they apply?:

This is an opportunity to join a busy, operationally critical airport environment where the network is fundamental to day-to-day operations. This is not a slow, siloed enterprise network — it’s live, visible, and constantly evolving.

You’ll be working in a Cisco-centric environment, supporting and improving infrastructure that underpins airport operations across multiple UK locations. No two days are the same, the pace is real, and the work genuinely matters.

The role offers a strong mix of hands-on support and project work, with exposure to switch refresh programmes, firewall technologies, WAN connectivity, and ISP management. If you enjoy being close to the technology, solving real problems, and working in a high-trust engineering team — this one hits the mark.

Responsibilities:

• Support and maintain a Cisco-based enterprise network in a mission-critical environment.

• Deliver switch refresh and upgrade projects across the estate.

• Provide 2nd/3rd line network support across LAN, WAN, wireless, and firewall platforms.

• Support Cisco switching and Aruba wireless infrastructure.

• Manage and troubleshoot firewall and VPN technologies (ASA & Firepower).

• Support BGP connectivity and liaise with ISP providers on WAN issues.

• Work closely with internal stakeholders and third parties to resolve incidents and deliver improvements.

• Participate in an on-call rota supporting a 24x7 operational environment.

Skills / Must Have:

• Strong experience supporting Cisco switching environments.

• Solid networking fundamentals across routing, switching, and WAN connectivity.

• Experience with firewalls (ASA / Firepower or equivalent).

• Understanding of VPNs and BGP.

• Comfortable operating in a support-heavy, operational environment.

• Able to work onsite regularly and be based within one hour of the Manchester area.

Nice to Have:

• Aruba wireless experience.

• Experience working with ISPs and managing circuit-related issues.

• Previous exposure to transport, logistics, or operationally critical environments.

Benefits:

• Competitive salary package.

• On-call allowance of £200 per week plus call-out payments.

• Structured shift pattern: 8am–4pm or 9am–5pm.

• 1 week in 5 on-call rota.

• Hybrid working with 3–4 days per week onsite.

• Exposure to large-scale, non-static infrastructure.

• Stable team with real engineering ownership.
