About Our Client University Of St Andrews
The remit of the Development Office is to develop and strengthen the University's position at the forefront of teaching, learning and research by inspiring active participation, investment, and loyalty to St Andrews.
They do this through fundraising for key University priorities and developing mutually beneficial relations with over 70,000 alumni, friends, and benefactors worldwide.
Significant capital projects include the development of a 'New College', the first in 300 years, and a new masterplan for the Science and Medicine Campus.
The Campaign also focuses on research support within the Mackenzie Institute for Early Diagnosis, funding sustainability initiatives to help the University's net zero targets and an ongoing commitment to growing scholarship support.
Development Development currently has an overall staff of 50 with plans to expand over the next 12-36 months as the Campaign develops. The team are based in two locations on campus (North Street, and Walter Bower House at Eden Campus) as well as some remote workers including an entirely remote US team of four.
Led by the Director of Development, Robert Fleming, and a highly experienced Senior Management Team, the Unit functions over five teams Development Services, Alumni and Supporter Engagement, Campaign and Donor Relations, Major Gifts, and Major Gifts (US).
The University was is currently ranked as the top University in the United Kingdom, by the Guardian University Guide 2024 and the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024.
The University is currently embarking on a range of exciting fundraising projects which support the University Strategic Plan 2022-2027.
The role of Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations sits within the Campaign and Donor Relations Team which also has responsibility for campaign development, corporate, legacy and mid-level fundraising, as well as the stewardship of all donors.
Within the broader Development Unit, the post-holder will work closely with the Major Gift Team, in particular the Head of Development for Arts and Divinity and the Head of Development for Science and Medicine on trust and foundation proposals for key projects under these faculties.

The Role Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations
The Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations will play a crucial role in delivering support for the University of St Andrews £300m fundraising campaign. The post-holder will be a senior member of the Campaign and Donor Relations Team and will also work very closely with members of the Major Gifts Team both in the UK and US. The post-holder will be an experienced leader with a track record of six and seven figure gifts, an established network of trust and foundation contacts, with a thorough understanding of the higher education and charitable sectors.
They should have an ability to understand complex projects and produce compelling funding proposals. To succeed in the role, you will be required to demonstrate leadership skills, take initiative, think creatively, show commitment and enthusiasm, be self-motivated, and possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
The post-holder will be responsible for developing giving from trusts and foundations and charities across arts and humanities and science and medicine, including for scholarships, research, and large capital projects to fit within the Universitys strategic priorities.
Above all, the post-holder must be passionate about the role that philanthropy plays in supporting higher education for the benefit of society as a whole.

Skills
Skillset & Experience You must have unquestioned integrity, curiosity, and the ability to listen and learn from others. Comfortable working in a purposeful and rapidly evolving environment, you should possess:
Extensive experience of trust and foundation giving.
Evidence of securing 6 and 7 figures gifts.
Experience in prospect research, fundraising, relationship management or marketing.
Experience of working in a large, complex and diverse organisation with senior staff and stakeholders and high-level volunteers and external networks.
Excellent written communication skills with the ability to translate complex briefs/ projects into persuasive fundraising cases for support.
High level of expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other packages.
Experience in use of Raisers Edge or other alumni/membership / relational database.
Agile networking skills, able to influence and build rapport quickly with donors/supporters and senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Experience of working on capital fundraising campaigns would be a distinct advantage.

Remuneration Package & Benefits
Flexible working: You will be primarily home based, with office working a minimum of one or two days per month. However, if you wish to work on campus more often that would be welcomed.
Compensation: Development salary: Grade 7 - £45,585 - £56,021 per annum, depending on skills and experience, supplemented by an attractive benefits package.
In addition, there will be excellent opportunities for professional development including attendance at events run by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
