Are you passionate about working with children and young people with disabilities? West Berkshire Council have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Childrens Occupational Therapy Team within Childrens Social Care. Our team strive to enable children and young people to participate, function and thrive in family life within theirhome environment.
We are looking for an experienced Childrens Occupational Therapist to join us and help make a difference to the lives of children and families in our local area. We are a friendly and dynamic team working in Community Social Care in the beautiful setting of West Berkshire. The successful applicant must have relevant Occupational Therapy experience working with children who have disabilities and complex health/sensory needs.
The Role
As a competent Children's Occupational Therapist, you will be able to:
Deliver robust child centred assessments and interventions for children and young people.
Recommend and prescribe specialist equipment such as seating systems, bathing, toileting and safety equipment for sensory needs.
Assess the need for both minor and major home adaptations and progress these through the Disabled Facilities Grant process.
Work with the local housing team and associations to recommend suitable housing and facilitate adaptations to improve childrens access to essential facilities within their home.
Complete moving and handling risk assessments and write manual handling care plans, prescribe hoists and slings to ensure safe moving and handling of children and ensure risks are reduced for parents and carers.
Work collaboratively alongside Social Workers, Family Support Workers and a wider established multi-disciplinary team within social care, and our healthcare colleagues.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
Occupational Therapist with HCPC registration.
Experience working in a similar role elsewhere.
Sound knowledge of legislation and standards relevant to Occupational Therapy and childrens services.
You must have a diverse knowledge and understanding of how disability can affect children and their families and a sound awareness of safeguarding.
Excellent assessment, intervention, and report writing skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Effective organisational and time management abilities.
Knowledge of and experience in Sensory Integration would be an additional benefit.
