Senior Planning Lawyer

Our client, an international law firm with a strong presence in key global sectors, is seeking a Senior Planning Lawyer to join their Birmingham office. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning lawyer to work on high-profile development projects and contribute to the firm's continued success.

Position Overview

As a Senior Planning Lawyer, you will play a crucial role in advising on a diverse range of commercial development projects, residential schemes, and infrastructure work. You will collaborate closely with clients, local authorities, and other professionals to deliver practical, commercially-sound legal solutions.

Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of planning matters, meeting tight deadlines

Advise on major office, retail, and logistics development projects

Act for house builders on strategic residential schemes up to 5,000 homes

Handle infrastructure work, including Development Consent Orders

Assist with compulsory purchase matters for housing and regeneration schemes

Draft and negotiate planning agreements and infrastructure agreements

Provide clear, practical advice with sound commercial judgment

Requirements

Qualified lawyer with strong experience in planning law

Excellent drafting skills for planning-related deeds and documents

Experience with planning applications, hearings, appeals, and due diligence

Ability to manage a caseload effectively and remain calm under pressure

Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Collaborative approach to working with team members and clients
