I'm working with a design-led civil engineering consultancy that's rethinking infrastructure delivery in the UK. This collaborative, values-driven team is passionate about creating healthier, greener, and more connected places. Their projects include town centre upgrades, flood-resilient neighborhoods, and active travel infrastructure, emphasizing sustainability and community impact.

They are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer for their Manchester studio. This role is ideal for someone technically proficient who enjoys hands-on work and is ready to take on a project-facing position, supporting junior engineers, leading technical delivery, and guiding the team alongside senior leaders.

The Opportunity

1. Lead civil engineering design across diverse projects including infrastructure, regeneration, drainage, highways, and utilities.
2. Collaborate with landscape architects, urban designers, and environmental specialists to create impactful projects.
3. Oversee design quality, support project delivery, and serve as a key contact for clients and partners.
4. Mentor junior team members, helping develop their technical skills and promote best practices.
5. Engage in early design thinking, stakeholder discussions, and proposal shaping to improve real-world outcomes.

What They're Looking For

• A Chartered or near-Chartered Civil Engineer (ICE / CIWEM / CIHT / IStructE or equivalent).
• Proven experience in civil infrastructure design, including roads, SuDS, utilities, and earthworks.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D, MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow, AutoCAD, and similar tools.
• Excellent communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external consultants.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers (formal management not required).
• A pride in delivering technically sound, environmentally responsible, and socially valuable work.
