Principal Civil Engineer - Water Sector Location: Manchester (with regional travel)

The Role
As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will contribute to projects that positively impact the environment and local communities by improving water and wastewater systems.
You will take a leading role in the development and delivery of civil engineering solutions across all project stages, ensuring technical excellence and integration with wider project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, planning, and delivery of civil engineering elements across projects Provide technical guidance and ensure designs comply with relevant standards and legislation Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting a collaborative "one-team" approach Coordinate civil designs with other engineering disciplines and oversee documentation production Undertake technical reviews and act as a checker for project deliverables Identify and implement improvements in design processes, including standardisation and digital tools Carry out site visits to review buildability and integration with existing assets Support, mentor, and develop junior engineers within the team
Requirements
Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline) Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant institution Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in civil engineering, including hydraulic and structural design Strong track record of delivering projects to quality, safety, and regulatory standards Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Willingness to travel to project sites within the region
Desirable Experience
Knowledge of sustainable design practices Experience with relevant engineering software and digital tools Understanding of regulatory frameworks within the UK water sector Experience in temporary works design
