As an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer you will be part of a small but growing team, working on designs for locomotives and related products for the mainline, industrial, mining and tunnelling industries. These products range from 2 tonne to 150 tonne, powered by Diesel, electric, battery or hybrid technologies.
Working closely with all employees, including the Directors, Engineers and support personnel you will support our client who is a privately owned company, over 90 years old and is the leading UK supplier with significant growth expectations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a substantial player within the industry.
Principal Mechanical Engineer Requirements:
• Degree in a related subject (BEng, BSc).
• Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in an engineering product design environment.
• Ability to lead a team of engineers.
• Ability to liaise with the electrical engineers and other departments.
• To mechanically design products in 3D, including 2D detail production drawings, and update existing designs, in conjunction with the electrical design engineers and supporting the technical author.
• Capable of working with an ERP system (Microsoft NAV or similar) and associated Bills of Materials.
• 3D CAD (ideally Autodesk Inventor).
• Hand calculations and FEA.
• Design experience in hydraulic and pneumatic systems and large fabrications.
• Large, low volume product experience.
• Support production with technical enquiries.
• Rail or off-road product design experience preferable.
