We are looking for a Production Engineer to join a well established UK manufacturer based in Bolton that is part of a global organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting production and engineering teams.
As a Production Engineer, you will ensure products are manufactured to specification, support new product introduction, maintain tooling and fixtures, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers a hands on opportunity to work closely with multiple departments and contribute to the efficiency and quality of manufacturing processes.
Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 per annum (dependent on experience). Hours: Monday–Thursday 07:30–16:00, Friday 07:30–12:50 (38 hours per week).
As a Production Engineer, your main duties will include:
* Managing the lifecycle of production tooling and fixtures, including maintenance, calibration, and ongoing optimisation.
* Creating, editing, and validating CNC programs using Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens systems.
* Optimising CNC milling and turning operations, from method selection to cycle time reduction and quality assurance.
* Leading continuous improvement initiatives with measurable targets, including cycle time, scrap, changeover, and right-first-time performance.
* Designing and implementing jigs and fixtures to improve repeatability, ergonomics, and shop floor safety.
* Providing hands-on support for setup issues, technical bottlenecks, and process deviations.
* Training operators and setters on new tooling, CNC programs, and best practices.
* Maintaining accurate technical documentation including tool sheets, routings, BOMs, and manufacturing drawings.
* Collaborating with Planning, Design, Quality, and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth production flow.
* Supporting industrialisation and introduction of new products into manufacturing.
Requirements:
* HND, HNC, Degree, or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related engineering discipline.
* Experience in production or manufacturing environments.
* Proficiency in using lathes and milling machines.
* The ideal Production Engineer will be proactive, technically confident, and focused on improving manufacturing processes.
* Experience with CNC programming on Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens systems.
* Skilled in using standard power tools (drill, grinder, jigsaw).
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
* Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
* High attention to detail and good organisational ability.
* Effective communication and teamwork skills.
* Familiarity with continuous improvement techniques.
* Experience using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor) is desirable but not required.
