Programme Manager – Research Programmes

Flexible. Primary base could be anywhere in the UK, but must be willing and able to travel to London and elsewhere (mainly UK) in connection with the role.
The Programme Manager will have a key focus on supporting Programme-wide data strategy and access for the Cancer Data Driven Detection (CD3) Programme, in addition to wider delivery support for HDRUK Programme delivery and integration.
General responsibilities:
- Enable use of appropriate team communications and project management tools.
- Support development of reference communication materials such as standard presentation and communications decks.
- Be prepared and able to work flexibly to support colleagues as needed, adapting to an evolving environment and emerging priorities.
The successful candidate will be involved in and working:
- With HDRUK’s Strategy Team on various projects and tasks requiring a high level of planning and organisational skill.
- Supported by the Programme Director/CD3 CDO, using problem-solving skills to respond to diverse demands.
- Making day-to-day operational decisions for their workload, leading on initiatives to streamline and improve working across CD3 and HDRUK.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships within HDRUK and partner organisations, including close work with the CD3 Executive team, Programme co-leads, HDRUK Programme Directors, and UK data providers and TREs.
Experience:
- Several years’ experience in the UK health data ecosystem, with understanding of health data science research and infrastructure (e.g., Trusted Research Environments), and familiarity with NHS data.
- Experience managing large-scale, UK-wide health data research and infrastructure programmes, within public sector, academia, or industry.
- Understanding of health data access, governance, security, and privacy requirements.
- Ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
- Proven capability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Skills in strategic planning, breaking down long-term strategies, and setting milestones.
- Experience navigating ambiguity, leading change, and simplifying complex processes.
- Proven ability to build collaborative teams across organisations and work with senior managers with humility and confidence.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and experience in developing quality management approaches.
- Financial management experience and understanding of financial flows in public sector projects.
- Proficiency with project management tools and experience managing complex projects.
