We’re a 10-person consultancy working on cutting-edge sensing and detection technologies for our clients, and we invent our own technologies too. Most of our work focuses on emerging technologies for homeland security, where we advise government and industry clients across the UK, Europe, and the US.

We’re looking for a Project Manager who’s passionate about technology to help keep our growing portfolio of diverse projects running smoothly, on time and on budget. You’ll work closely with technical leads to scope, plan, and deliver work that ranges from multi-year R&D programmes and field trials to highly detailed logistical builds - like procuring and assembling an entire aircraft’s worth of luggage to a precise specification.

As part of our small, focused team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape project direction and influence company strategy from day one. We work flexibly, choosing when and where we can do our best work, prioritizing meaningful impact, autonomy, health and well-being.

If you're excited by what you’ve read so far, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

You’ll be working collaboratively in our team with responsibilities including:

–Scope out client requirements and plan projects in collaboration with technical leads

–Contribute to forward planning across multiple concurrent projects, working with directors to identify and resolve resourcing challenges or other dependencies

–Support the bid-writing process for new work

–Act as a key point of contact for clients—providing updates, managing expectations, and helping resolve any challenges

–Lead on contract negotiation and placement

–Manage subcontractors to ensure delivery aligns with time, quality, and cost expectations

–Produce clear and concise regular project reports

–Monitor and manage project budgets

–Contribute to project delivery, including assisting with technical work as required (training will be provided)

–Coordinate logistics, ensuring the right people and equipment are in the right place at the right time

•Experience managing projects and teams:

–You enjoy coordinating people and keeping them motivated

–You don’t need to have held a formal “Project Manager” or “Head of Operations” title, but you should be able to show how you’ve led people toward a shared goal, kept tasks on track, and balanced scope, time, and budget

•Comfort using project management software tools:

–e.g. MS Project or similar

–You’re comfortable working with spreadsheets to track progress, timelines, and budgets

•You find technical topics interesting (even if you don’t have a STEM degree):

–This will enable you to work alongside scientists and engineers to understand the basics behind what’s being delivered

•You are comfortable communicating verbally and in writing:

–Typical tasks include project updates, planning documents, or talking through a challenge in a client meeting

•You like the idea of working in a small, agile team:

–You’re happy to roll up your sleeves when there’s no specialist department to fall back on, and support others in tackling challenges just as we’ll support you

If you have a disability, please let us know prior to interview what adjustments are required as well as discussing how we can support you in the workplace. Due to the nature of our work, we can only consider applications from UK nationals or individuals with long-standing residency in the UK (typically at least 10 years).

We’d love to hear if any of the following might also apply to you:

•Experience with sales

•Experience in the Homeland Security domain

•Experience working in a consultancy

•Demonstrable experience working on projects delivering impactful results in a short period with small, focused teams (months, not years)

•Demonstrable experience working in a STEM environment

•Quality management experience (e.g. ISO 9001)

•PowerQuery/PowerBI skills or other means of data aggregating, interpretation and reporting

•Practical hands-on capabilities – this could include craft-work, DIY skills or technical/lab skills

•Health and Safety experience – a lot of our work is very practical and requires careful management of risk to keep us all safe

At Iconal, we strive to create an environment where every individual feels valued, heard, and empowered to bring their whole selves to work – regardless of gender, race, religion, LGBTQIA+ identity, disability, class, neurodiversity, or any other aspect of identity. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those who may not have followed a traditional career path. Please feel free to ask us about our ongoing activities in this area at any stage of the application process.

Salary and Benefits

•£46,200 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience. We have a transparent pay and progression scale, which we are happy to discuss with candidates at interview

•An additional annual profit-share bonus scheme

•Company pension scheme, including a 9% employer contribution

•Support for hybrid and flexible working

•28 days annual-leave (not including bank holidays), plus a time-off-in-lieu policy

•The opportunity to purchase shares in the company – we are an employee-owned company

•Medical Insurance and Income Protection
