Job Description
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We seek, embrace, and live diversity for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment.
It’s an exciting time to be involved in planning England’s water resources. Our water supply faces ongoing pressure, with droughts and dry weather spreading across England after the driest start to a year since 1976. We have recently published the National Framework for Water Resources to secure our future water supply. In this role, you will play a crucial part in its success.
First released in March 2020, the framework pioneered planning for more resilient water resources amidst climate change, droughts, and population growth, alongside environmental enhancement. The 2025 update significantly advances these efforts, promoting integrated, multi-sector planning at all levels.
The post holder will support activities to deliver and implement the National Framework, working closely with team members and external stakeholders to progress water resources initiatives.
The Team
You will join the Water Resources Resilience team, which leads the National Framework for Water Resources and collaborates across sectors to improve resilience.
We are part of the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate, influencing policy and legislation, facilitating delivery, and building trust to enhance environmental outcomes.
Experience/Skills Required
- Good communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and partners
- Experience in project and programme support
- Strong organizational skills, including planning, tracking, and evaluating work
- Environmental planning and legislation experience (desirable but not essential)
As a dispersed team, you must work independently while maintaining effective communication. We offer development opportunities and training.

This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2026. We support flexible and hybrid working arrangements, with an EA Office base location. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. Please read the Candidate / Additional Information Pack and contact WRNationalFramework@environment-agency.gov.uk for queries.
Applications are assessed blindly via competency questions. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date.
