Job Description – Quality Engineer
Department: Quality (Technical) Reports To: Site Quality Manager
Role Purpose
The Quality Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement across all departments while providing direct support to the Site Quality Manager. The role ensures robust quality standards, effective problem‑solving, and the advancement of a strong quality culture throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Complaint Investigation & Corrective Actions
What you do:
Conduct thorough investigations into customer complaints, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Provide timely feedback to customers with initial findings and clear objectives.
Use industry‑standard techniques to report outcomes systematically.
Success indicators:
High internal and external customer satisfaction.
Demonstrable improvements in quality or related business performance.
Lead Projects, Training & Improvement Initiatives
What you do:
Lead your own quality projects.
Deliver training and development activities.
Recommend and implement improvements.
Provide flexible cover for laboratory technicians.
Follow the business’s standardised approach for quality reporting.
Ensure QC support provides 100% coverage for operations and related activities.
Engage relevant departments in improvement work.
Verify the effectiveness of new or improved processes.
Projects deliver clear, useful conclusions.
Investigations are structured and efficient.
Cross‑department collaboration becomes routine.
New processes achieve the intended results.
Meetings & Cross‑Functional Engagement
Attend and lead relevant meetings, including Continuous Improvement sessions.
Participate professionally and constructively.
Create or lead CI meetings when required.
Positive feedback from meeting attendees.
Visible contribution to continuous improvement discussions.
Quality KPI Reporting
Maintain and update Quality KPIs.
Keep KPI dashboards and noticeboards current and accurate.
KPI displays remain up to date.
Teams consistently meet their targets.
Digitisation & Data System Improvement
Support and advance site‑wide digitisation initiatives.
Maintain existing data systems.
Identify opportunities to improve or replace outdated systems with digital tools.
Smooth operation of data analysis tools.
Reduction or elimination of paper‑based quality systems.
Internal Auditing
Conduct internal audits of processes and controls.
Complete audits within required timescales and to the standard set by management.
Audits completed on time and to expected quality levels.
Knowledge & Experience
Experience in a comparable FMCG environment (Essential)
Experience in Quality Control, Manufacturing, or Production (Essential)
Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience (Essential)
Proven track record of managing projects and delivering to schedule (Essential)
Skills
Ability to multi‑task and manage workloads under pressure (Essential)
Strong problem‑solving and creative thinking skills (Essential)
Proficient in MS Office, spreadsheets, databases, and email systems (Essential)
Working knowledge of SAP (Desirable)
Experience with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies (Desirable)
Internal auditing training (Desirable)
