What you’ll be doing

You will lead the commercial strategy across the region, ensuring alignment with sector and business objectives. Your role will involve providing insight and guidance to senior leadership, influencing key decisions and managing risk effectively.

You will play a pivotal role in work-winning strategies, supporting bid teams with commercial input. Expect to lead tender processes, including pricing strategies, risk assessments, and contract reviews, ensuring submissions are competitive yet profitable. You’ll also represent the business in client presentations and negotiations.

You will maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure collaborative delivery. Acting as the primary commercial interface, you’ll build trust and credibility through transparent communication and consistent delivery.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the negotiation, execution, and administration of contracts for all projects within the region. You will ensure robust compliance, manage variations and claims, and resolve disputes. You’ll also develop procurement strategies that deliver best value and support sustainability and innovation.

You will take ownership of commercial reporting processes, including CVR, forecasting, and cash flow management. Expect to identify variances, mitigate risks, and drive margin improvement through cost control and strategic planning. You’ll present commercial performance updates to stakeholders at all levels.

You will work closely with Regional and Project Directors to align commercial and operational strategies. You’ll support operational teams in understanding contractual obligations and provide proactive commercial insight during delivery meetings.

You will manage and mentor a high-performing commercial team, fostering a culture of excellence. Your role will involve supporting talent development through coaching, training, and succession planning, while promoting collaboration across disciplines.

Finally, you will uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct. Expect to ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and Group requirements, while promoting a culture of accountability and responsible commercial management.

What you’ll bring

Demonstrable experience working within the Infrastructure or Construction industry in a Commercial Manager or Managing Quantity Surveyor role

Advance qualification in Quantity Surveying (BSC or equivalent) is required.

RICS or CICES beneficial – M Group are committed to supporting the development of our people and can offer support to gain chartership if you do not already have the accreditation.

Demonstrable previous experience as a line manager or functional manager of Senior QSs, QSs, Junior QSs and administrators.

Experience in NEC3 & NEC4 contract types and suites is essential. Experience of other contract types and suites, such as FIDIC and JCT, is also beneficial.

Prior experience of projects in value of up to £20m as well as a number of small projects

Strong professional relationship management skills.

Strong IT skills including all standard MS Office applications, and particularly Excel.

Focused knowledge of data management and analysis techniques essential.

Sound communication and negotiation skills

Full UK driving license – this includes travel across sites
