Elevate Your Career as a Risk Manager at a Critical Infrastructure Project

Join a high-profile infrastructure programme supporting a nuclear defence site, enabling the future of the Royal Navy’s submarine capabilities. As a Risk Manager, you will be at the forefront of safeguarding complex projects, ensuring they stay on track while managing the intricacies of high-stakes operational environments.
In this pivotal role, you will identify, analyze, and respond to risks across the project lifecycle, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Your expertise will help maintain the programme’s momentum, mitigate potential setbacks, and contribute to security efforts. This opportunity requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional with proven experience in risk management within complex infrastructure projects, ideally in government or defence sectors.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to operate effectively under pressure in a secure environment. Based primarily at a nuclear defence site in Helensburgh, you will engage in regular workshops and site visits, with occasional travel to Glasgow, Bristol, and contractor sites, providing strategic oversight and ensuring rigorous risk controls are in place.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of risk management experience, including leadership roles
Proven ability to manage risk in infrastructure or defence projects
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, capable of interacting at executive levels
Strong analytical and data processing skills to identify trends and develop mitigation strategies
Experience with risk analysis tools, including Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA) and Cost Risk Analysis (CRA)
Demonstrable knowledge of risk management processes, governance, and best practices
Proficiency in IT tools relevant to risk management
Nice to Have Skills:
Industry-specific knowledge of defence or government projects
In-depth understanding of nuclear infrastructure (, but not essential)
Experience in collaborative multidisciplinary environments
Education & Experience:
APM Project Management Qualification or equivalent
PRINCE2 Practitioner certification
Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner certification
Membership of relevant professional bodies such as PMI or APM
Additional Requirements:
UK with active SC security clearance (or able to obtain prior to joining)
Willingness to be onsite for a minimum of two days per week, with flexibility for additional visits
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including senior stakeholders
Commitment to operating within strict security and governance protocols
