Secondary Teacher – General Cover (Supply)

We are seeking experienced Secondary Teachers to provide general cover across schools in Leeds and surrounding areas on short- to medium-term supply contracts. These roles require confident professionals who can take control of a classroom, deliver pre-set work effectively, and maintain strong behaviour management across a range of subjects.
This is not an entry-level role. Classroom teaching experience in a secondary school setting is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Delivery
Supervise and deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects at KS3 and KS4. Ensure pupils remain on task and complete work set by the absent teacher. Provide clear instructions and maintain lesson structure in line with school expectations. Adapt quickly to different subjects, classrooms, and school environments. Maintain continuity of learning throughout the school day.
Behaviour Management
Manage classroom behaviour confidently in line with school policies. Establish authority quickly and maintain control of the classroom. Address disruption effectively while maintaining a professional and calm approach. Promote a focused and respectful learning environment at all times.
Student Support
Support pupils in understanding and completing assigned work. Provide basic guidance where needed without deviating from lesson plans. Ensure all students are engaged and participating appropriately. Report any issues or concerns to relevant school staff.
Administrative & Reporting
Complete lesson feedback and handover notes for the regular teacher. Follow school procedures for attendance, safeguarding, and reporting incidents. Work collaboratively with support staff where present in the classroom. Maintain accurate records where required by the school.
Person Specification
Essential
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, OR significant experience teaching in a UK secondary school.
* Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a secondary classroom environment.
* Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
* Ability to deliver lessons across multiple subjects confidently.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Adaptable, resilient, and able to think on your feet.
* Professional, reliable, and punctual.
Desirable
* Subject specialism in any core or foundation subject.
* Previous experience in a general cover or supply teaching role.
* Experience working with KS3 and KS4 pupils.
* Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
* Familiarity with a range of behaviour management strategies used in secondary schools.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Enhanced DBS (required).
* Two references required, including most recent employer.
* Proof of right to work in the UK required.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities in education.
