We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join the team at a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) School on a full-time, temp-to-perm basis. This role is ideal for someone with strong behaviour management abilities, a calm and empathetic nature, and the commitment to support students who face complex social and emotional challenges.
Working as part of a supportive and skilled school community, you will play a vital role in helping students who have struggled in mainstream settings rebuild their confidence, re-engage with learning, and develop positive coping strategies. Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs is essential, alongside a genuine passion for making a meaningful difference.
Key Responsibilities
Provide support to students in both classroom-based and one-to-one environments, helping them maintain focus and engagement.
Implement effective behaviour management strategies to promote a positive, structured learning environment.
Build trusting and respectful relationships with students, offering understanding and emotional support.
Assist teachers in delivering lessons, adapting resources and activities to meet the needs of students with SEMH and behavioural difficulties.
Support students in managing their emotions constructively and developing positive behaviour patterns.
Work collaboratively with staff across the school to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to teachers and support teams to ensure each student receives appropriate guidance.
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role within an SEMH or SEND setting.
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs, displaying empathy and understanding at all times.
Reliability, consistency, and a strong commitment to providing high-quality support.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
